Activity Check

Neon Requiem uses a modified "check-in" activity check. There are no comment counts for activity check. Instead, your AC is in the form of a report written by your character and submitted to their caseworker at the Bureau of Soul Affairs. (If your character would absolutely refuse to do this, AC can be written by their caseworker instead!) This report is a brief summary of or thoughts on your character’s activities of the month, to be added to their file for consideration in Soul Judgment.

This can be as long or short as you like, in any format you please. Your character can attempt to mislead or lie. However, if they do lie, the truth of their activities will appear as a magical addendum at the bottom of the page (because we really do want to know what they’re up to!) Don't worry: there will be no consequences for what your character confesses in AC.

AC is due by midnight EST on the last day of each month. Failure to post will result in your character being swept from the game.

If circumstances require that you take a hiatus, you are excused from AC for the requested calendar month. You may only take one hiatus per three month period. (EX: if you hiatus in January, you must complete AC for February and March.)

If you are in need of a longer hiatus or you have special circumstances of any kind, please let the mods know and we'll be happy to work something out with you.

Contacted Miss Sov after she failed to appear for her assigned monthly check-in. Soul was terse but polite. Roughly the same demeanor as has previously been seen.

Soul expressed grievances with safety conditions in Requiem and implied that she believes law enforcement is not working for the good of the people. In particular there seems to be concern with random attacks. When asked if she reported any attacks to the authorities, Soul became dismissive and changed the subject.

Minimal information provided on personal activities. Records indicate Soul remains in initial assigned housing. There are no records of Soul applying for employment at this time. Note made to bring this matter up on next scheduled check-in.

CASE SUBJECT: Soul-Q0704

Miss Sov again did not appear at her monthly check-in, and several calls were made before contact was established. When asked if she was purposely avoiding contact, Soul did not answer and instead asked if that was a frequent occurrence caseworkers dealt with. Circular conversation ensued for several moments before moving on.

Despite the initial difficulty in reaching her, Soul was pleasantly polite for the length of the conversation. Soul mostly discussed the city's recent Job Fair and appreciation for the, quote: "wide varieties of opportunity presented" at the Fair. While it is unclear if Soul made any progress toward employment, public surveillance records confirm the Soul's account and that Soul visited several of the booths for a length of time.

Soul did not air any new grievances. However when questioned as to why Soul was not answering calls or appointment requests, she stated that she has been exploring the city and what surrounds it to, again quoting: "gain a better feel for [her] new home." Soul did not elaborate, or confirm where outside the city she may have gone. There are records that Soul has redeemed several bounties pertaining to creatures known to reside in the Wilds.

Recommend additional monitoring due to Soul's evasiveness and persistence of anti-authority sentiment. [See flagged file for further detail.]

I appreciate that you believe this sort of engagement will benefit the souls caught in this place. Or perhaps you yourself don't believe it and you are merely following your orders. It matters not either way. I don't feel this is intended to be helpful but rather to monitor and try to influence the more wayward of souls.

It has never been more clear to me that your Mayor-Queen is not in full control here. That is the image you all want to project. The image she wants you all to help project. An image that you wraiths and whatever else holds up City Hall have a vested interest in.

But that is all that it is. An image. An illusion.

This Niesha is merely another child with a custom-made dollhouse, trying to fill it with puppets and dolls who make her feel good about herself and as if she is doing the right thing, as if she knows what is best for everyone here. For as little as she's seen and as much as she appears to shirk the proper duties of a ruler, she may herself be a puppet for another player in this game. Even if that should turn out to be the case it changes nothing and absolves her not of the pointless danger she put countless innocent people in.

A queen protects her people. She does not imprison them against their wills. She does not flounce around the city while claiming to care about people getting to their rightful places, purposefully delaying their departure from this realm. A delay that forces them to be in danger that they would never be in otherwise.

I care not what you all call her or she calls herself. She is unfit. And seeing just how unfit she is to serve as queen it is no wonder at all anymore why law enforcement here is so sorely lacking and equally useless.

Do not bother me with your incessant pestering, I will not play your game or hers or anyone else's.

Soul terminated phone call without allowing a response. Four immediate call-back attempts were made, none answered. Three more were made the following day to no response.

Strongly advise increasing Soul's threat level.

Public video recordings for the month of December [Year Redacted] involving the Subject show no delinquent or disruptive behavior. At no time was Subject recorded near City Hall or making threats against Lady Niesha.

One recording dated 02.12.XX contained 17 seconds of a ghost that resembled the Subject. Not able to verify with a secondary camera.

During the Darkest Night, Subject recorded at multiple locations around the city assisting civilians and dispatching monster threats, alone and with other hunters.

Final Assessment: Subject not a current danger to City Hall. May be a danger to themselves. Request for additional monitoring denied at this time.

~~Unsurprisingly~~ Miss Sov has failed to respond to all correspondence requests over the past month.

An effort seemed to be made to prevent the outgoing office number from connecting to her number. This was fixed (although our IT Department assures me this was merely a hiccup in the network and the average Soul would be unable to tamper with it in such a manner), however it should be a concern that the Soul is not simply avoiding contact but attempting to prevent it.

As the prior months' requests for additional monitoring and surveillance were denied, there are limited findings to report.

Soul was recorded on Elysium Street multiple nights across the month, reports indicate Soul may have been recruited for her fortune by a local business. ~~I find it difficult to believe a troublemaker like her~~ Alternatively, this may be an indication Soul has found something to spend her time on rather than criticizing our fair city and government. Will follow up on this next month.

Uncertain where Soul was located during the blizzard as many cameras were iced over or froze up due to the unexpected conditions. Rumors indicate Soul was likely not at home.

If Soul continues to be evasive, I recommend reassigning her to a field caseworker who specializes in difficult Souls. Otherwise I will require overtime compensation to attempt to monitor her without negatively impacting my current caseload.

I can see why this soul was giving one of the others problems. She's quite the busy social butterfly!

And a slippery one too. Looks like we had another hiccup in the system and she's one of the few that got an unscheduled visit home before everything got fixed. I've attached the report, hopefully IT will find it useful.

Given Sov's history of avoidance combined with the above, a home visit wasn't scheduled. You know I like starting with a more hands-off approach for these types. Let them think we've given up trying to keep track of them.

While it's unclear what may have taken place while she visited home, almost immediately upon return several bar visits were noted (minimal overlap with prior recorded locations) as well as several trips out of the city. There are additionally recorded visits to the Hanami Festival and multiple days at residential showings. Difficult to say if the few days outside our city provided her some kind of motivation to be active, next month should be more telling.

PS — After reading though her list of connections, you can go ahead and add me to the betting pool. Surely drama has to happen sooner or later. If her soul is really as aged as the intake form states, she can't be oblivious to the couples. Maybe she's the heart-breaking sort of queen? Primarily activity this month seemed focused around Ms. Sov's new residence. Quite a few visitors, though unfortunately most were the unwelcome sort related to that new beastie infecting the VR environment.

We received quite the expense report for residential cleanup and renovations. Most of the monster bits resolved themselves by morning but the damage from firearms and that curious creature Ms. Wong has been recorded in the company of was surprisingly extensive. The realty company offered Ms. Sov a swap to a comparable residence free of charge but she declined.

I did notice that she was one of the accounts to file a Virtuabro complaint about that little "error" relating to simulation video feed export. Considering the kind of activities she's been noted to participate in at Heaven I'm surprised. She must be more interested in watching than putting on a show herself.

Did the server the user recordings were being stored on get wiped with the latest patch? Just curious.

Unsurprisingly, given her background, Ms. Sov was in attendance at the yearly Swansdown Gala. Seemed to have a good time, even. Though she didn't require prodding to attend so that's also no surprise. Her and Mr. Castellanos sure made a rather handsome pair on the dance floor, didn't they?

Ms. Sov also appeared to have more than a good time at that other event. Dare I say that scene seems to suit her in a way. Perhaps it's that glow of hers.

Regardless, between the organized events and other recorded appearances she's keeping up that social butterfly behavior. A fair amount of travel this month around the city and modest activity at her residence as she seemed to have further renovations done. Personally I'm curious to see if she intends to live there alone. Or which of her recorded acquaintances become frequent visitors.

Some curious chatter on the back channels, however nothing worth looking into at this time.

In addendum to the unexpected 'report' below from the soul herself, there is no indication Ms. Sov provided any information to City Hall in relation to the Styx Inc. investigation though she was one quite clearly affected by the chemical spill in prior months.

Another expense report made it to my desk and as a consequence I have advised the security company that monitors that block of high-rises to refrain from further efforts to replace the surveillance cameras that have, quote, "inexplicably ceased to record or function" in and around Ms. Sov's building. The company has replaced equipment twice in as many weeks and there is little point in wasting more funds on such an endeavor at this time. Particularly as policy states the security company will not be reimbursed through government funds due to phenomena disabling or destroying their equipment.

Should there later be any incidents due to this, the matter can be revisited.

Since you have done the courtesy of being less obstructive than the prior wraith, I will grant you a courtesy in return.

I do wonder how aware you all are of the larger happenings in the realm prior to some of them taking place. The newsworthy few things this month being an excellent example. A ruined amusement park rising from the sea on its own, hmm? Certainly better for people to believe that is the case and not that it was made to reappear purposefully.

It's curious how Niesha can motivate interest and resources to fix something personally important to her but can't — or won't — do the same for the populous. Oh sure that trial is going on, but please. The trial is for PR and a scapegoat, with no real benefit to the public. If I were to hazard a guess I would say the city-wide water contamination wasn't approved from the top and thus an example is being made of the Styx CEO.

It's a sound strategy that tends to work. For how long will be interesting to see.

If ever Niesha starts consistently putting such energy and effort towards bettering life for the average person here, then she and I may have something to talk about. However, I have begun to question what hidden benefit there must be to both allow the average individual to languish for an excessive amount of time in this realm and to allow the persistence of malevolent beings.

Don't worry, I wouldn't ask such questions of you or your compatriots. I'm quite capable of solving such queries on my own.

• Soul seems to be working on spreading a bit of influence in some manner. Nothing concerning or below board has been seen, surprising given current notable influences in the city. Perhaps this is the Soul's way of solving their loneliness issue.

• Related, multiple individuals appear to have made visits to the Soul's residence over the past few weeks, some seeming to overlap as well. Mildly curious — as far as the office betting pools go, that is. But not unexpected given the size of the residence the Soul procured for herself.

• The 'abnormal formation' recorded in July has resolved itself, as expected. Samples were taken but it's been reported they too turned back into sand and are now useless. It remains to be seen if the activity was a result of the summer's usual anima surge or if such could potentially manifest at any time. Due to the timing the event is not deemed to be of note or potential concern.

I understand that there are certain systems in place here and you all have a certain way of doing things, however I hope you understand that this particular system can come off as rather insulting and even patronizing. Surely there must be a better way of addressing the need to maintain contact without making adults feel like problem children being monitored for bad behavior.

It also does not lead to this feeling like an "afterlife" if it supposedly is one. This is most assuredly not the afterlife of my homeworld. [Muttering too quiet to pick up on and transcribe.] I would be curious if it actually lines up with any of the apparent varied worlds countless others are from.

Regardless of what this place is or isn't, I have grave concerns regarding the conditions here. Public safety seems to be an ongoing issue judging by how accustomed people are to the creatures that come out to roam the streets at night. It has been disquieting that I encountered these creatures on multiple nights in different parts of the city.

If possible, I would like some information on what is being done to contain the creatures. I have experience with a situation of a perhaps similar nature and would gladly offer suggestions if they should be applicable.

The creatures are not my only concern. Is crime rampant in certain areas or... [Unable to transcribe] ...? I would have expected a greater response by the local law enforcement to a rash of abductions across the city. And not just because I found myself a victim.

I didn't receive any correspondence from Mr. Scientia this month, but he's not the only of my charges to not report in. It seems this month's excitement really took a lot out of some of the residents! Poor things.

Rumors suggest he might have had a tussle with one of the winged creatures while out hunting. While I hope he's resting up, I also hope the incident may encourage him to focus energy on something other than hunting here. It's admirable, of course, but given his condition he should leave it to the professionals.

Speaking of, have Medical come back with confirmation on his status yet? Preliminary reports were that his soul isn't one of the mishaps so it's curious that hasn't resolved itself yet if that's the case.

Do you think [REDACTED] will ever release those BLIND-B-GONE drops they were working on a few centuries back? Maybe a little care package would cheer him up. I heard he was a very good sport at the dating event that was organized before half the city lost its minds, that almost merits a reward with how stubborn some of our other cases can be.

As Mr. Scientia failed to check in last month I took it upon myself to reach out early in the month. You know normally I like to send letters but unfortunately my penmanship would have been wasted with this case so I settled on a phone call. I regret to say he was terse and extremely uncooperative. Maybe the care package didn't go over well?

It does seem he hasn't been out hunting much and spent a bit of time on campus, surprisingly at the library. I didn't realize we've had enough vision-impaired souls pass through to merit even a small braille collection. Learn something new every day!

I was concerned about his social life as I haven't heard him mentioned hardly at all in the water cooler gossip, and he did seem rather broken up about being away from his friends when he arrived. But that may be taking a turn as he spent some time with that charming girl who's fond of the cold. I can't recall her name but surely you know the one I'm talking about. In any case, they looked quite cute on surveillance.

Hopefully he won't be such a sourpuss next month and will do his own report.

It would seem Mr. Scientia is both still stubbornly refusing to do his monthly report and refusing to curb his monster hunting habit. I really thought there'd been a breakthrough last month. If he truly wanted to be helpful he could have assisted the NeoNet QA, it's quite disappointing he didn't, and I did tell him as much before he hung up on me.

Alas, records indicate he was out late a fair number of nights the past month tussling with monsters. Perhaps trying to avoid much sleep? It's not clear how affected he was by the Virtuableed stemming from the new VR tech. More worryingly, I found surveillance of one daytime hunting venture into the Underground.

Of all the souls to take such a risk... It's such a shame he has such little regard for himself. Wasn't he supposedly a knight or something? I can't keep the silly little terms straight between all [REDACTED] worlds.

When the next organized ~~anima-generation~~ souls dating event rolls around we should work harder to set him up with someone. At least then he would be occupied with something less dangerous.

Amazing how some of these adults drag their feet like children and cling to stubbornness. I can't believe how many of us had to wrangle souls this year to get them to attend Swansdown Gala. Don't they realize how much effort goes into these galas? Or that we have better things to do than try to dress them appropriately for such events? I could have gotten a head start on my reports...

At least I finally got Mr. Scientia in a rather sharp-looking suit. And found a matching cane to go with it! I'm sure he was quite appreciative of that.

I admit I was a touch concerned with his wellbeing but I'm certain the galas this month have surely helped both his anima generation and his social life. If nothing else the events hopefully kept him too busy to try to hunt.

I'm disappointed to report both a continued lack of progress and quite uncalled for rude behavior from this particular charge of mine.

When Mr. Scientia failed to come down to City Hall or call into our tip-line regarding the Styx investigation — which I fully expected him to do so considering he was one of the unlucky souls abducted in January — I decided to pay him a personal visit before the end of the month. Just to make sure he intended to do his civic duty and to encourage him, of course. You know I never mind making that extra effort for my charges and I expect many of them appreciate it.

Do you know the thanks I got? None! Only hostility and even cursing. Really, terribly unnecessary. He insisted he was fine and had practically forgotten about the incident, and that I was purposely dredging unpleasantness up to aggravate him. What nonsense.

I didn't even chastise him for his foolish hunting this month! At least it was for a good cause, since he went down to the boardwalk to help make safe the amusement park. It would have been bad form for me to hold that against him when our fair Mayor-Queen wanted everyone to help restore the location to its prior glory.

Really, I'm not sure what I'm going to do about this one. Maybe we could organize an outing for the current bunch of problem soul-children. A camping trip perhaps? Now that summer's here, the weather is perfect for it. I'll float the idea at next week's staff meeting.

• Soul regained their vision at least in part — or possibly at last accepted that they had died and the expectation of blindness ceased to be necessary — and appears to be in a period of adjustment. They have still been noted hunting at night, and often wearing quite dark sunglasses on the occasions they're out of their apartment during daylight hours.

• Soul reported a few incidents of harassment by "gaudy thugs" over the past weeks. Sounds like he unfortunately got caught up in the Syndicate's activities. There are no records of the Soul engaging in known Symphony activities or functions, so it's likely the wrestlers were just a bit over-eager to question anyone who appeared a bit too tidy and business-like.
